THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at St. Joseph’s Hospital after two people tested positive, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced Sunday afternoon.

The outbreak impacts the 1 East – Mental Health Rehabilitation wing of the Camelot Street facility, the health unit said.

The declaration was made after two cases were identified among individuals associated with St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the health unit determined transmission had occurred at the facility.

The health unit has begun a thorough investigation that includes enhanced surveillance and testing, as well as on site inspection, it said in a statement.

“Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place at St. Joseph’s Hospital to reduce likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility,” the health unit said.
