THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Southbridge Pinewood long-term care home in Thunder Bay.

According to a release issued on Friday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, a staff member at the facility tested positive for COVID-19, the threshold to declare an outbreak under the provincial guidelines.

The low threshold helps contain any further spread, though at this time there is no evidence the virus has spread at the facility.

The health unit says it has initiated a thorough assessment of the situation, including enhanced surveillance and testing activities, as well as a on on-site inspection.

Further measures will be taken as deemed necessary.

Twelve people have died during an outbreak at Southbridge Roseview long-term care home.
