THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak at a Northwood elementary school has been declared over, exactly two weeks after it began.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced Tuesday an outbreak at Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School was officially resolved.
The outbreak was declared on Dec. 14 after two people associated with the school tested positive, with at least one of those believed to have acquired the virus in the school setting.
On Tuesday, the health unit stated there had been "no evidence that any additional spread of the virus has occurred in the school or in any related settings," allowing it to declare an end to the outbreak.
Anyone identified as a positive case or close contact is still required to stay home and not return to the school setting until cleared by public health, the agency noted.
The Gorham and Ware community school, where there were five COVID-19 cases, was the only local public school reporting active cases as of Tuesday, according to the Lakehead District School Board’s website.
There were 153 active cases across the Thunder Bay district Tuesday, the highest level since April. Three district residents were in hospital with the virus.
