THUNDER BAY — The Sleeping Giant Folk Music Society is postponing the start of its 20th season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an announcement Tuesday, the society said "there are still many personal health and safety concerns with regard to COVID-19, and a great deal of uncertainty as to when restrictions on large indoor arts and culture events will be lifted" in Ontario.

As a result, the SGFMS has decided to reschedule the first two events on its 2020/2021 concert list.

Whitehorse, originally slated to open the series on Sept. 26, 2020, will instead close the season on May 8, 2021.

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, who were booked for Oct. 31, 2020, will instead perform a year later, on Oct. 30, 2021.

At this point, the SGFMS said, it still plans to move forward with the remainder of the upcoming season series as scheduled.

That means The Good Lovelies will perform at the opening concert on Nov. 28, 2020.

The Ottawa-based group The LYNNeS, who were originally booked to close this past season on April 4, 2020, are now scheduled to open the society's 21st season in September 2021.
