Workers at Baffinland's Mary River mine site could have been exposed to COVID-19.

Health authorities are warning residents who have recently worked at a Nunavut iron ore mine of potential COVID-19 exposure.

Anyone who worked at Baffinland Iron Mines’ Mary River site between April 15 and May 27 is at risk, the Northwestern Health Unit stated in a release.

Those dates have been extended from a narrower range included in an earlier health unit statement.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit also released a statement urging any Baffinland Iron Mine employees or contractors to immediately self-isolate and contact the health unit at (807) 625-5900 or 1-888-294 6630.

Those already contacted by a public health nurse do not need to call back, the health unit said.

Residents of the Northwestern Health Unit can call 807-223-3301 ext. 302578.

The open pit mine on Baffin Island suspended operations on May 5 due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

The health units did not immediately respond to inquiries as to the number of residents who could be impacted.
