THUNDER BAY — Several cars on a Canadian Pacific Kansas City freight train derailed in Thunder Bay early Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 6 am inside the CPKC rail yard on a track adjacent to Hardisty Street, near the eastern end of Victoria Avenue.

About half a dozen empty cars were involved in the incident, but all of them remained upright.

A work crew was on the scene with heavy equipment.

A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific Kansas City – formerly Canadian Pacific – said all the cars were placed back on the track by the afternoon.

There's no word yet on what caused the derailment.
