THUNDER BAY — A collision between a transport and a sport utility vehicle closed Highway 102 west of the city for well over an hour early Thursday evening.

One occupant of the SUV sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening in the collision, an OPP officer on scene reported.

The highway remained closed in both directions just west of Mapleward Road due to the incident as of 6:45 p.m., according to Ontario 511.

The Ministry of Transportation reported the highway closure in an email alert sent out just after 5 p.m.

The closure resulted in a long backup of traffic.

Traffic control is in place and delays are said to be expected in the area.
