SHUNIAH, Ont. -- A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of McKenzie Station Road and Highway 11/17 sent seven people to hospital Friday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a release that the driver of a Ford Edge failed to stop at a stop sign before turning onto Highway 11/17. The Ford Edge then collided with an east-bound Suzuki Swift.

Three occupants of the Suzuki Swift were transported to hospital; two still remain with life-threatening injuries.

Four occupants of the Ford Edge were also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 11/17 is now open to the public after traffic was re-routed to Lakeshore Drive following the collision.

The investigation is continuing.
