THUNDER BAY — Customers remain obliged to pay their utility bills on time despite the ongoing disruption of postal service.
Unlike the City of Thunder Bay – which plans to extend this month's deadline for paying water bills – natural gas, telephone and hydro providers say they expect customers to find out how much they owe, and to meet the due date to avoid late or missed payment charges.
Enbridge Gas, Tbaytel, Synergy North and Hydro One all provide options for people to register for online access to their accounts, and for electronic billing.
A spokesperson for Enbridge said residential customers may also call 1-877-362-7434 to get their account balance, but the account number must be provided on the phone.
Tbaytel said it encourages customers to stay on track and avoid late fees during the postal strike by registering online.
Information can also be obtained by phoning the customer service department at 807-623-4400.
Similarly, a spokesperson for Synergy North said the utility suggests people register for e-billing.
Those who choose not to exercise that option may call 807-343-1111 or email the customer service department at customerservice@synergynorth.ca to check their account balance and due date.
Hydro One customers not already registered online may call 1-888-664-9376 to get the status of their account, providing they provide the account number.
The postal strike is now into its 27th day, with no sign of a settlement in sight.
