THUNDER BAY – David Kamande is the winner of the record-breaking $2.34-million Thunder Bay 50/50 draw.

“You’re joking? That is awesome news. Like seriously, that is awesome,” Kamande said, reached by Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation CEO Glenn Craig on Friday morning.

Kamande said he’s been going through some health issues and after being referred to a specialist at the hospital, where he learned about the draw.

“It will be nice to be able to pay off my mortgage and not have to worry about things like that,” Kamande said. “You know what I mean?”

The jackpot was more than double the previous highest prize awarded, $965,715 given out last February in the hospital foundation’s inaugural draw.

Tickets for the January draw are on sale now at www.thunderbay5050.ca.
