THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay city councillors, meeting in Committee of the Whole on Monday night, approved the sale of the former Dawson Court Home for the Aged.
The new owner will be a numbered Ontario company headed by local developer Ahsanul Habib.
The 890,000-square-foot building with nine acres of property was put on the market last year and was listed for $1.2 million.
Habib is purchasing the site for $450,000, but the city is retaining 2.4 acres of the property for a separate sale.
The developer's plans for the site have not yet been made public.
Habib has told Tbnewswatch he will discuss the project after city council formally ratifies the sale, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 5.
Two years ago, Habib's company also purchased the former Royal Edward Hotel from the city, at a cost of $500,000.
The former city-owned Grandview Lodge Home for the Aged remains on the market at a listing price of $900,000.
