THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed that a dead moose was located near the scene of a fatal collision last week on Highway 11/17 west of Thunder Bay.
An OPP spokesperson made that disclosure, but it's the only new detail police have released since Sept. 18, when the force announced that two Winnipeg residents were the victims of the fiery Sept. 17 collision between two transport trucks near Finmark Road.
There's no word on whether investigators believe the moose's presence on the highway may have contributed to the accident.
In response to an inquiry from Dougall Media, the spokesperson said he could only verify that the remains of the animal were found close by.
An investigation into the incident continues.
In addition to the two fatalities, two people suffered serious injuries in the collision.
