THUNDER BAY – A weeks-long search for missing person Matthew Bouchard has come to a sad end.
The Thunder Bay Police Service on Friday identified a body discovered on Aug. 31 in the city’s south end as Bouchard.
The announcement came after an investigation that included consultation with the coroner’s office, the TBPS said.
Bouchard, 38, had last been seen on the afternoon of Aug. 21, in the 100s block area of Frederica Street West.
In a statement, police thanked civilian volunteers who had assisted in search efforts and residents who had shared information.
Police located Bouchard’s body in an area near the 100 block of Darrel Avenue, close to the Resolute Forest Products sawmill, on Aug. 31 following reports of a body possibly being spotted in a nearby waterway.
The force’s Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bouchard’s death.
