Delta's waterfront hotel closed, doors boarded

Waterfront hotel, Days Inn and Suites on Sibley Drive have both temporarily closed because of COVID-19.

THUNDER BAY – The doors on the city’s waterfront hotel are boarded up and a sign indicates the hotel is currently closed.

COVID-19 and a drop in reservations are the causes of the closure, according to city tourism manager Paul Pepe

The Delta Hotels by Marriott is not the only local hotel to shut its doors due to the global pandemic. Pepe said the Days Inn and Suites on Sibley Drive, near Montana's, has also temporarily closed, shifting reservations to its Golf Links Road property.

The $35-million 149-room waterfront hotel opened last May, after a number of delays.

Construction began in 2014, with an original planned opening date of spring 2016.

The reservation system at the hotel is expected to reopen on June 29.
