Despite the hot weekend, a combination of rain and humidity was enough to ease the forest fire situation in this region.

The forest fire hazard for much of Northwestern Ontario is holding steady at moderate. Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Information Officer Debbie MacLean says recent storm activity has kept the MNR on its toes.

“We have seen heavy lightning with the storm systems that have passed through,” MacLean told CKPR Radio. “So we are keeping a close eye on the lightning strikes, and when a fire does pop up we are ready to attack.”

MacLean added that this year’s forest fire season has been much quieter than last year.
