THUNDER BAY - The people of Thunder Bay's love for cars knows no bounds.
This weekend’s Thunder at the Bay Motorsports Extravaganza is set to feature a lot of cars, per usual.
What’s different about the extravaganza’s third year is a special guest. TV celebrity Twiggy Tallant of the Vegas Rat Rods will be on site to talk about her experiences as a welder.
“It’s a great opportunity for the public and participants to meet her,” said organizer Kevin Merkley.
The event is also a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay, with a 5,000-ticket 50-50 draw helping to raise funds for the organizations. Merkley says various draws will be held every hour.
Merkley said the most popular event featured at the car show is the burnout contest, which will take place between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
“People really, really like that,” Merkley said. “This is the only car show in town that does it, and it creates so much enthusiasm.”
The two-day event features live entertainment, a fashion show, coliseum building displays, ice racers, an engine blow and more.
Admission to the event is $3 for adults, and free of charge for children 12 and younger. Parking and attending the swap meet are also free.
Hundreds of car enthusiasts registered their rig for 2017’s event, and Merkley is expecting an even greater turnout.
