THUNDER BAY – Each year Dew Drop Inn part-time supervisor Michael Quibell gives the thunder Bay community the gift of a Thanksgiving meal.
Quibell along with more than a dozen other volunteers offered the community a Thanksgiving dinner at the Dew Drop Inn Monday afternoon with all the fixings.
“Thanksgiving is special to everybody,” Quibell said. “We want to make it special for everybody, and lots of people can’t afford a meal or don’t have a place to go, so we want to welcome them here and have a memorable day for them.”
More than 300 people had the opportunity to indulge in a full turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, and dessert.
Quibell said he has been volunteering on Thanksgiving Day for many years, but this is his first year volunteering at the Dew Drop Inn.
“It’s exciting, it’s a great day and a very rewarding day,” Quibell said. “I enjoy it, and I enjoy working with the volunteers and the clients, it was meant to be for me.”
Quibell added that a meal of this magnitude couldn’t be done without the volunteers.
“We have lots of volunteers today, we had about eight people this morning, and we have about eight people this afternoon,” he said.
“We also had people here earlier in the week peeling the potatoes, cooking the turkeys, carving the turkeys, and slicing the carrots as well as getting all the stuff ready.”
He added that the amount of support from the community has been astonishing as they donated nearly all the food for the meal.
Quibell said without the volunteers or the support from the community the Dew Drop Inn wouldn’t be able to host the Thanksgiving dinner.
