THUNDER BAY —The former Eaton's department store in Thunder Bay's north core is getting a new tenant.
Dilico Anishinabek Family Care plans to lease about 20,000 square feet and transfer about 45 staff currently working out of a location on Park Avenue.
A spokesperson said the move is expected to be completed in the coming months but there is no firm date yet for the transition.
Terry Bortolin, director of finance and corporate services, said the new location is not only larger but it will allow Dilico to maintain a presence in the downtown area.
"We've outgrown the [existing] space. We've seen increases in demand for services. We want to maintain a strong presence on the north side of town, so what better way than moving down and rebuilding an old area of Thunder Bay?", Bortolin said.
The north-side facility offers health and mental health services as well as cultural services.
"With the larger space, we're also able to provide additional cultural services to better serve people on that side of town," he said.
Dilico has reached out to the Thunder Bay Parking Authority and private lot owners about the availability of additional parking spaces for staff as well as clients.
The organization's main offices remain on the Fort William First Nation.
