THUNDER BAY — An international discount retailer that set up shop in Thunder Bay for the first time in 2023 is opening a second location in the city.
Dollar Tree will take over the section of the former Safeway store on Court Street North that's not occupied by Freshco.
A sign that proclaims "Coming Soon" is posted at the northern end of the building.
There's no official word from the company yet on the opening date, but it's believed the required renovations will be completed this summer.
U.S.-based Dollar Tree has expanded rapidly into Canada, where it now has 253 locations, including one at McIntyre Centre on Memorial Avenue.
Canada-based Dollarama continues to dominate the discount variety store sector in Thunder Bay, where it has seven locations.
