THUNDER BAY – Earlier this week, Kay Parries, district governor of Rotary district 5580, stopped in Thunder Bay for a visit.

“Our trip started out about a week ago, visiting all different clubs. Our district is 1,100 miles across and so we need to visit all 60 clubs. We ended up in Thunder Bay today to visit a club.

“It's wonderful to see what all of our members throughout the district are doing in their communities,” she said.

Parries said the Port Arthur Rotary Club is very busy.

“I absolutely loved their program that they're working on with the radio program. I hadn't heard of that one before.

“We'll be sharing that throughout the district with other clubs. I think it's absolutely fantastic that they have a lot of ideas flowing. They're bouncing off the walls really, with their ideas.

“I think it's just great that Thunder Bay people support the Rotary and all the things that they're doing,” she said.

Parries said these visits are very important.

“We just got into Thunder Bay today. So, we're going to be coming around and kind of spending some time here. We do share all the different ideas throughout the district and that's really important.

“There are clubs that are doing small projects. Maybe they're a smaller club, but they want to try something new. They have a contact with somebody that's already done it and tried it and that makes a big difference, or has it all laid out in step form, ‘here you do this first, second, third, and this is what the outcome can be for you.’”

Parries said the difference with Rotary is they do a lot of international service projects.

“People from our communities go overseas to help other people that need help. That's a real big component of Rotary. We have a great group that goes to Guatemala and those places to help people that wouldn't have that help,” she said.

If you’re not in Rotary, think about joining Rotary, Parries said.

“Come to a meeting. We're welcoming anybody to come to a meeting and find out a little bit more about Rotary. And I think you're going to find out that you're going to find a great group of people that maybe you don't even know in your community and you make a new friend along the way too. Stop in and see Rotary.”

The easiest place to go and find information is Rotary International website, she said.
