THUNDER BAY – An 86th person with COVID-19 has died in the District of Thunder Bay.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday announced the latest COVID-related death, the third this month and 16th in 2022.

The health unit, which last reported case counts last Wednesday because of the holiday weekend, announced 318 new cases, bringing the 2022 total to 6,286 – with the caveat that testing has been limited by provincials regulations and the number is likely actually exponentially higher.

There is good news.

Just 16 people are hospitalized across the region with the just three in intensive care, the lowest numbers reported all year in either category. However, Thunder Bay Regional reports 21 patients in hospital with COVID-19, including four in the ICU.
