THUNDER BAY — The number of people in the Thunder Bay region who have died after contracting the COVID-19 virus has climbed to 121.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday confirmed that the death of one more individual over the past week was linked to COVID, either as the underlying cause or a contributing factor.
TBDHU also reported that 66 people are currently in hospital with the virus, but only one patient requires intensive care.
A week ago, only 43 people in hospital had tested positive for COVID-19.
The district's positivity test rate has also climbed in the past week.
As of Thursday, the seven-day average of COVID-19 tests returning a positive result was 22.6 per cent compared with 19.5 per cent a week earlier.
The average across Ontario was 13.4 per cent, compared with 11.1 per cent the previous week.
