Dollar Tree to enter Thunder Bay market

The discount retail chain will establish its first store at McIntyre Centre

THUNDER BAY — Another player in the discount variety store category plans to enter the Thunder Bay market for the first time.

The City of Thunder Bay building services department has received an application for Dollar Tree Inc. to locate at McIntyre Centre at 1186 Memorial Avenue.

A company spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the outlet will be established in a space that's currently vacant.

Renovations require a permit from the city.

Dollarama dominates the discount variety sector in the city, with half a dozen locations.

Across Canada, there are currently over 1,500 Dollarama stores, and about 228 Dollar Tree outlets.
