Donate your blue bags to help a family in need

Blue bags can be dropped off for the next month or so.

THUNDER BAY – Don’t throw out your clear blue bags – a local non-profit organization will gladly take them off your hands.

Now that you can recycle using your new bin instead of blue bags, Precious Bundles has set up drop off locations where they are hoping people will drop off their bags.

Precious Bundles uses clear plastic bags to package up gently-used clothing, books, educational toys and other items to distribute them to local families in need.

Emily Shandruk, a volunteer board member, said Precious Bundles has dropped off around 1,000 bags of items to roughly 800 families in the last year.

“We provide up to a week's worth of gently-used clothing to families throughout the city,” she said, adding that clear bags help ensure the family can look at the items to make sure they will work for their children.

Shandruk said since Precious Bundles has a small budget, blue bag donations will help the organization purchase other items such as socks, underwear, winter boots – “things like that for families in need.”

Blue bags can be dropped off for the next month or so at Bulk Zone at 135 Frederica St. E., Gear Up for Outdoors at 894 Alloy Dr., and Badanai Motors Ltd. at 399 Memorial Ave.

Precious Bundles is always in need of items for youth between the ages of six and 10 – and financial donations help as well.
