Driver faces impaired charges after leaving collision scene

Provincial police said officers received a complaint about a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102, and further investigation determined the driver had previously been involved in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 17.

THUNDER BAY — A 34-year-old from Quebec faces several charges after being stopped following a single-vehicle collision, and then a public traffic complaint about a speeding vehicle.

Provincial police said officers received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Saturday afternoon about a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 east of Mapleward Road.

Further investigation determined the driver had previously been involved in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 17.

The driver was allegedly impaired by drugs arrested and taken to the Thunder Bay OPP detachment for further testing.

The accused is charged with impaired driving, careless driving, failure to report an accident, failure to remain, operating an unsafe vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving without a licence, and failing to surrender a vehicle permit.

The accused has been released from custody with a January court date.
