THUNDER BAY – Police have charged the woman who smashed her car through the wall of the Fort William Gardens with impaired driving.

The Thunder Bay Police Service on Friday announced the 44-year-old woman, who has not been named, is facing one count of impaired driving and one count of failing to provide a breath sample after the Wednesday crash.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries and nobody was hurt inside the building.

Police spokesman Chris Adams previously said investigators were examining the possibility of the collision being deliberate due to lack of signs the driver attempted to avoid the building.

The car was travelling eastbound on Miles Street shortly before the crash when it slammed into the southwest wall of the building near the giant curling stone at the corner of Miles and Vickers streets.

Engineers are still in the process of examining the structural integrity of the building was well as compiling damage estimates. The vehicle crashed through a women’s bathroom and caused significant damage.

City personnel said no upcoming events have been cancelled or postponed at this time. The Gardens box office remains open.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
