THUNDER BAY – Fire crews responded to a single-vehicle collision Wednesday morning after a transport truck driver was trapped in his vehicle after hitting a hydro pole.
According to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, crews arrived on scene around 9:14 a.m. to find a single-vehicle incident involving a transport truck on Island Drive that had left the roadway and collided with a hydro pole, which took down several utility wires.
Live wires were laying across the trailer portion of the transport truck with the uninjured driver still inside.
Firefighters instructed him to remain in the vehicle until the live hydro wires could be isolated by Synergy North utility company.
Once the hydro service was isolated, the driver was removed from the vehicle by fire crews.
The scene was inspected by TBFR to ensure the vehicle did not contain hazardous materials and to ensure no leaking fluids or other hazards were present.
The driver was transferred to EMS personnel who were standing by on scene.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing.
