Drivers facing multiple charges after separate incidents

Both accused will be appearing in court on Nov. 6.

THUNDER BAY – A pair of drivers have been charged following separate incidents on Wednesday.

Officers from the Thunder Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision along Highway 61, near Arthur Street, on Wednesday at 6:47 a.m.

It was determined that one of the drivers involved in the collision had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.

The 42-year-old from Webequie First Nation, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Nov. 6.

At 4:13 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement team initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle along Highway 11-17.

The driver was subsequently placed under arrest after refusing to provide a breath sample into an approved screening device.

The 37-year-old from Thunder Bay was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand, fail to comply with probation order, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order and unauthorized possession of a weapon.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Nov. 6.
