DRYDEN -- Dryden Council has appointed Greg Wilson to complete the end of Craig Nuttall's term.

Wilson placed second in the 2014 mayoral election but Nuttall resigned in last month, only a year into his second term.

No sitting councillors put their names forward to lead the cash-strapped municipality and council chose appointing Wilson instead of holding a fresh election.

"Council felt that the electorate had spoken at  last year's municipal election and that it was the right action to appoint the runner up to fill the vacancy," Deputy Mayor Martin MacKinnon said in the release.

"We are delighted to have Mr. Wilson join the Council table in that leadership position and lead Council to continue their good work for the community."

Wilson is the owner of Wilson's Business Solutions, a family-owned company that has sold office supplies throughout Northwestern Ontario for 70 years.

"I look forward to contributing to Council's efforts in building financial sustainability for our community, developing a clear strategic plan for the municipality and re-establishing the City of Dryden as a leaders among its municipal peers in Northwestern Ontario," Wilson said in a release.

Wilson will be sworn in as mayor on Nov. 2.
