DRYDEN, Ont. - The City of Dryden has announced measures intended to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The steps are more aggressive than those taken by Thunder Bay, but similar to those implemented by other small municipalities in the region, including Kenora and Oliver Paipoonge.
Several city-run facilities will be closed to the public as of midnight on Sunday until at least April 5, the city announced Saturday. Those include the library, Dryden & District museum, Public Works front counter, and all municipally-operated recreation facilities (arena, fitness centre, pool).
In a release, the city promised refunds will be issued for any cancelled programs.
The new restrictions will also impact city leaders and staff. A council meeting scheduled for March 23 has been cancelled, while any travel for staff is being restricted “unless extenuating circumstances arise.”
The municipality is also suspending non-essential work such as water metre repair and CCTV until further notice.
The city says its response will continue to evolve based on the advice of public health agencies.
