THUNDER BAY – Claire Dubinsky and her teammates are on a roll.
The foursome, who call the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club home, on Friday won for the fourth straight time to grab a share of top spot at the 2025 Northern Ontario U18 girls curling championship in Timmins, knocking off Thunder Bay’s Lily Wright 8-3.
Dubinsky, lead Lily Ariganello, second Bella McCarville and third Rylie Paul, traded deuces with Wright in the first two ends, then stole a single in the third to take a 3-2 lead.
Wright, with hammer, was held to one in the fourth, then Dubinsky took over and broke open the 3-3 game with a pair in the fifth. She stole one in the sixth and two more in the eighth, handing Wright her second straight loss.
Wright, lead Isabella Bron, second Sienna Desilets and third Caitlin Nephin, fell to 3-2 and sits in solo third place.
Dubinsky is tied with hometown favourite Deanna Chilton’s team at 4-1. The two sides will tangle for top spot in Draw 8 action on Saturday.
In the boys event, Thunder Bay’s Jacob Curtis bested fellow Thunder Bay skip Josh Hari, putting the 6-4 win away with a steal of one in the seventh before running his opponent out of rocks in the eighth.
It was the first win for Curtis (1-2). Hari dropped to 0-2.
Curtis takes on Timmins’ Liam Morris on Saturday morning. Hari plays Morris in the afternoon draw.
