Dubinsky, Wright earn wins at U18 provincials

Jacob Curtis also earned his second win of the week, evening his record at 2-2 in the boys' competition in Timmins.

THUNDER BAY – Make it five straight wins and counting for the Claire Dubinsky foursome at the Northern Ontario U18 girls curling championship.

Dubinsky, lead Lily Ariganello, second Bella McCarville and third Rylie Paul scored three in the third end on Saturday morning to jump in front of Timmins skip Deanna Chilton, en route to a 7-2 win in a game between two teams who entered play in Draw 8 tied a 4-1.

Chilton managed singles in the fourth and fifth end, but Dubinsky rebounded with a pair in the sixth and the two sides shook hands.

Thunder Bay’s other entry in the girls’ competition also won on Saturday.

Lily Wright skipped her team to a 7-3 win over Fort Frances’ Emma Tucker and sits at 4-2, tied for second with Chilton.

In the boys’ competition, Thunder Bay’s Jacob Curtis evened his team’s record at 2-2, downing Timmins’ Liam Morris 11-4, scoring four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Thunder Bay’s Josh Hari (0-2) takes on Morris in the afternoon draw.
