OLIVER PAIPOONGE – In the battle of the Superior International Junior Hockey League heavyweights, it was the Kam River Fighting Walleye that scored the convincing knockout decision.
Jeremy Dunmore scored three times and Ashton Sadauskas was a perfect 26-for-26 in the save department to record his second shutout of the season as the Fighting Walleye devoured the ice Dogs 7-0 at the Norwest Arena.
Dunmore scored twice in a three-goal first and completed his hat trick 6:15 in the second, the only goal of the period, giving him seven on the season and the Fighting Walleye a 4-0 lead at the time.
Max Wright, Riley Borody, Ryan Doucette and Edwin Liang also scored for Kam River, all seven goals coming against Ice Dogs goaltender Michael O’Sullivan.
Dryden and Kam River will tangle again on Saturday night. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
Thunder Bay 6, Wisconsin 3: The streaking North Stars won their eighth in a row, thanks in part to a two-goal, two-assist performance from captain Edison Weeks. E.J. Paddington, the leading scorer in the SIJHL, had a goal and an assist, as did line-mate Easton Mikus. Keenan Marks stopped 12 of 14 shots for the Stars. Zach Johnson, with a pair, and Simon Davidson had the Lumberjacks tallies. The North Stars improved to 9-4-0 and moved to within a point of third place Sioux Lookout.
