Parents looking for options to keep the kids occupied this summer will be happy to hear about the eco-friendly activities planned by EcoSuperior. The local non-profit organization is offering 4 water-themed weeks of day camp for children ages 8-12 with an emphasis on outdoor fun and building connections with nature. Activities will take place at Central Natural Environment Gardens with a different theme for each week:

• July 4-8: Aquatic Adventures
• July 18-22: Wonders of Wildlife
• August 8-12: Webs, Wings & Wigglers
• August 22-26: Survival of the Fittest

Camp runs from 9:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday (staff supervision from 8:30am-5:00pm).  The cost of camp is $175 per week, and there is a “bring a buddy” discount rate of $150 for each “buddy”.  Registration is available online at www.ecosuperior.org/camp.

EcoSuperior is a proud partner of P.R.O. Kids Thunder Bay and some subsidized spaces are available; the P.R.O. Kids website has more information.

“Last year’s summer day camp was an overwhelming success! We have lots of new activities lined up for this year and are excited to be able to expand our program.” says EcoSuperior Program Coordinator Erin Moir. “People are looking for camp experiences that promote environmental ideals.  This camp meets that need. We provide reusable water bottles, local fresh food snacks, and a whole week outdoors in the fresh air.”

In addition, the camp participants can expect visits from special guests with bonus activities such as Bike Rodeos with Safe Cycling, hands-on experiments with Let’s Talk Science, visits from the MNR and OPP canine units, and sampling and observing aquatic insects from the McIntyre River.

EcoSuperior has been providing school and youth programming for the community since 1997.  The organization now offers a wide range of school programs for elementary and high school students.
