THUNDER BAY — The Ontario Energy Board has approved a rate hike for customers of Synergy North.
According to a decision published by the OEB, monthly bills for residential customers in Thunder Bay using about 750 kWh of electricity will go up by about $4.54 on May 1.
The OEB reported that customers in Kenora will see their bills grow by an average of $5.87 a month.
In an email responding to an inquiry from Newswatch, a Synergy North spokesperson said the change was calculated using an OEB-approved formula that's tied largely to inflation.
The increase is about 3.6 per cent a month for Thunder Bay customers, and 4.7 per cent for customers in Kenora.
Small business customers using 2000 kWh a month will see their rates go up 3.3 per cent in Thunder Bay and 3.5 per cent in Kenora.
Synergy North serves 51,400 residential and commercial electricity consumers in Thunder Bay and the Fort William First Nation, and approximately 5,600 customers in the City of Kenora.
