THUNDER BAY – Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the Empty Bowls, Caring Hearts fundraising activities are moving forward next month.
According to a release, this year’s Empty Bowls Caring Hearts event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Moose Hall.
Ticket holders will pick up their hand-made bowl between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Moose Hall parking lot, take it home and fill it with soup themselves.
Since a regular dinner cannot be held this year, organizers are asking members of the community to purchase a ticket and share the meal with others in the community through the efforts of Shelter House Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Food Bank.
The event organizers are hoping to raise $14,000.
"It was not possible to host a sit-down dinner this year, but we know the need is great and the group decided something could be done," said event co-chair Jay Stapleton, in a release.
"Thanks to the efforts of the Thunder Bay Potters' Guild and the local community of potters, we have some amazing empty bowls."
The idea for this empty bowls experience was brought forward by Pyteke Blauuw, one of the event founders.
Leading up to the event, organizers will be sharing ideas on how ticket holders can fill their bowls, through email and social media. Some of these ideas include recipes, a "cook along with" video as well as highlighting local vendors who will be featuring an Empty Bowl soup for purchase on the weekend of the event.
Ticket sales have launched and can be purchased online through the Empty Bowls Caring Hearts website or by calling the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship at 344-5980.
