THUNDER BAY – This past year, Enactus Lakehead, an entrepreneurship club based on Lakehead’s Thunder Bay campus has been working on their new project called Brain Blitz.
The project focuses on educating high school and university students on the basics of entrepreneurship and in demand soft skills, while providing students opportunities to practice what they have learned through hands on work at Hackathons.
From their project, the team impacted 753 youth since May 2023, helping improve the social, environmental, and economical health of Canada – along with the mental health of Lakehead students.
Recently at the National Exposition, 49 teams from all over Canada came together to pitch their projects to a panel of industry professionals. From the competition, Enactus Lakehead was honoured as the runner-up in the opening round of competition but were unfortunately not chosen to move on to the semi-finals.
Although the competition was the main purpose of the trip, participants also got the opportunity to network with student teams from all across Canada as well as share best practices from their experiences in their teams.
Nick Bruni, President of Lakehead’s Faculty of Business Student Association and Presenter for Enactus Lakehead said “this opportunity is one that will not be forgotten, and one I hope to take advantage of in the future.”
The team thanked LUSU and the Lakehead Faculty of Business Administration for their support of the trip, as well as their numerous sponsors which were recognized at the Enactus Lakehead Annual General Meeting.
Lastly, the team would not be where they are without the help and support of their faculty advisor, Alyson MacKay, manager of Ingenuity, Lakehead’s business incubator, as well as project advisor and Enactus alum, Silas Young.
Many people likely remember Enactus’s largest event, Pie a Prof, from earlier this year when students were given the opportunity to put a pie into the face of some professors and Lakehead University staff.
This helped students take their minds off their studies for a short period before exams and provided an outlet for mental health.
