GREENSTONE, Ont. — Over 3,200 customers were affected by an early-morning power outage across a broad swath of the Municipality of Greenstone on Wednesday.

Hydro One reports the outage occurred at 4:40 a.m.

It lasted the rest of the morning, and affected Longlac, Long Lake 77 First Nation, Caramat, Long Lake 78 First Nation, Beardmore, Nakina, Aroland First Nation, Rocky Bay First Nation, and other communities.

Hydro One dispatched repair crews, and said it expected to have power restored to all customers by about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the outage was a broken cross arm on a hydro pole.

Greenstone Mayor Renald Beaulieu expressed frustration with the incident, saying outages seem to happen three or four times every summer in his municipality.

Beaulieu added that it shows the need to upgrade electricity distribution infrastructure in the area.
