Fat Guy's Car Show draws in crowds

Like previous years, the funds from the car show will be going towards George Jeffery Children's foundation

THUNDER BAY – Thousands of people made their way down to check out the hundreds of classic cars on display at this year’s Fat Guys Car Show on Saturday.

The show closed sections of Queen Street and Fort William Road and featured local food vendors, a beer garden, and special guests Chris Jacobs, Daylin James, all in support of the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.

Nathan Pickard, vice president of Strategic Growth and Operations for Fat Guys Auto Parts, said that organizers were nervous with the weather this week, but they’re more than pleased with the turnout this year.

“This is our second live car show since the pandemic, and given the rain early in the week, registration was a bit lower,” he said. “But, as soon as everybody found out that it was going to be a sunny day, all the cars came out, the cars and car enthusiasts.”

The show had over $10,000 in cash prizes to be won by those who entered their cars and like previous years, the funds from the car show will be going towards George Jeffery Children's foundation.

“And part of the reason why we do it in support of that organization is because it's near and dear to the Community,” said Pickard.

“And we began our journey in Thunder Bay and just recently we opened up in Winnipeg, July 31, Our second location and it's always nice to come home and put on this event and you know, bring the community together."

Meanwhile, as people were showing off their vehicles, another person was winning one. The Thunder Bay Museum announced the winner of its 2023 Classic Car Raffle, the museum's largest fundraising event.

A man from Newcastle Ontario won the big prize, which was a 1966 Ford Mustang GT. There were over 14 thousand tickets available, and while numbers weren't available at the time, officials were hoping to raise $100,000.
