THUNDER BAY — FedNor, the federal government's regional economic development agency, has announced over $1 million in investments for three initiatives in Northwestern Ontario.
The largest amount is an unconditionally repayable investment of $500,000 in Graham & Graham Consulting's land-based therapy programming and training facility near Kakabeka Falls.
The Kenora-based company last year purchased a 57-acre former farm, where it's been constructing a new A-frame multi-purpose building with the help of the federal funding.
According to a government announcement Wednesday, the FedNor assistance will also support the purchase of large teepees and tents.
Patty Hajdu, the minister responsible for FedNor, also announced $489,000 for the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre to support the expansion of programs over three years to promote business development in the Kenora-Rainy Rive region.
Elsewhere in the Northwest, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek received $119,000 from FedNor for a feasibility study and conceptual design for a breakwall and waterfront infrastructure on Lake Nipigon, where the First Nation is located.
At a news conference in Sudbury, Hajdu simultaneously announced about $4.9 million dollars in FedNor investments in various initiatives in Northeastern Ontario.
