THUNDER BAY – Two individuals are facing numerous drug-related charges following a Festive R.I.D.E program on Friday.
On Dec. 15, at around 2:45 p.m., the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was conducting a Festive R.I.D.E program on Highway 102 at Highway 11/17.
During the program, the officers observed suspected cannabis readily available to the driver of the motor vehicle.
The OPP said that, after further investigation, the officers discovered that the vehicle was carrying other illicit substances, including roughly 73 pounds of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and 460 grams of cannabis, as well as various cannabis products. They also found Canadian currency and other items associated with drug trafficking.
The officers seized the above items, and two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.
Lloyd Coleman, a 49-year-old resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, has been arrested and charged with multiple offences. These charges include Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession for the Purpose of Distributing, and Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available.
A 39-year-old man named Norman Blaney, of Calgary, Alberta also faces several charges including Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, and Possession for the Purpose of Distributing
Both accused are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.
