THUNDER BAY – Ribfest is set for another big weekend in Thunder Bay before the end of this month.
The fifth annual Waterfront District BIA Ribfest is set for the weekend of Aug. 26 through the 28. The event will again transform the OLG Casino Thunder Bay into a festival of ribs that is expected to host more 30,000 people.
“That’s our goal,” said Ribfest chair Bonnie Tittaferrante.
“We’re also expanding more and more each year so we hope everybody comes down.”
Ribfest will also feature live entertainment each day and evening, a kids zone, and more than 30 vendors.
But the annual festival isn’t just a celebration of meat. Organizers believe they’ll be able to raise more than $30,000 for the Our Kids Count organization.
While the $30,000 is what is expected to be raised via Ribfest, Our Kids Count will also be the benefactor of the Motor for Muscles event.
The Motors for Muscles event takes place alongside the Ribfest at the same OLG parking lot venue.
If both events are as successful this year as they were in 2015, Our Kids Count is expected to receive as much as $70,000.
“That gives us a big chunk of what we need to raise,” Our Kids Count Executive Director Gladys Berringer told CKPR Radio Tuesday.
