OLIVER PAIPOONGE – Ryan Doucette scored twice and added a helper, leading the Kam River Fighting Walleye to a weekend home-ice sweep of the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.
Jeremy Dunmore chipped in a goal and two assists and Brydon Bell had three assists to lead the Fighting Walleye to an 8-3 triumph, as they kept pace with the front-running Sioux Lookout Bombers, who edged Red Lake 2-1 at home and lead the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings by five points.
Jett Mintenko, Daxton Lang, Nickolas Fagnilli, Evan Lachimea and Kaden Goodwin also scored for the home side, who improved to 26-9-1 on the season, one point ahead of Dryden and two points better than the fourth-place Thunder Bay North Stars.
William McDonnel, Connor Corcoran, Ryan Kayser, Koen Burkholder and Nolan Fowler had the Wisconsin goals.
Travis VanderZwaag, who made 34 stops earned the win between the pipes for Kam River, who host the idle North Stars on Friday night.
Dryden 4, Fort Frances 3 (SO): James Hooton and Carson Devine scored in the shootout to lead the Ice Dogs past the Lakers. The two teams scored in each of the three regulation periods, the Lakers Brody Lindal sending the game to overtime with the equalizer with just over five minutes to go in the third.
Sioux Lookout 2, Red Lake 1: Cobe Delaney and Connor Burke scored third period goals to push the first-place Bombers (27-6-4) past the Miners, who took a 1-0 lead in the second on an Ehtan Cerone tally.
