OLIVER PAIPOONGE – A three-goal second period was just what the Kam River Fighting Walleye needed to dispatch of the visiting Wisconsin Lumberjacks on Saturday night.

The Lumberjacks scored the only goal of the first, and the only goal of the third, but it was the middle stanza that did them in and prevented them from a modest two-game wining streak.

Jack Cook and Jeremy Dumore scored 26 seconds apart in the second and Cook added his second of the night and 18th of the season before the period came to a close, the Fighting Walleye hanging on in the third to collect a 3-2 win.

Dillon Phillips and Caden Sutter had the Wisconsin tallies.

Lyler Lowden made 36 stops in net for the Lumberjacks, but was outdueled by Jack Orchard, who made 35 saves on 37 shots.

Thunder Bay 2, Fort Frances 1: the North Stars Colby Feist scored a pair of second-period goals and Keenan Marks bounced back after a rough outing on Wednesday night to make 30 saves to get Thunder Bay back in the win column. Blake Ferris, with his second of the season, scored for Fort Frances.

Dryden 5, Sioux Lookout 0: Brady Frattinger scored twice and Eric Clark earned a 26-save shutout as the Ice Dogs blanked the expansion Bombers in Sioux Lookout. With the loss, the North Stars (21-17-4) have caught the third-place Bombers, but Sioux Lookout (22-16-2) has two games in hand.
