Fightng Walleye blank Lumberjacks on road

Dryden and Sioux Lookout also picked up wins on Saturday night, as the SIJHL's top teams continue to roll

IRONWOOD, Mich – The Kam River Fighting Walleye rolled over the Ironwood Lumberjacks to complete a weekend sweep on the road.

Amar Powar scored twice and Ashton Sadauskas stopped 22 shots to record the shutout as the Fighting Walleye recorded an 8-0 win, giving them six wins in their last seven outings.

The win helped Kam River open up a three-point gap on the third-place Sioux Lookout Bombers and Thunder Bay North Stars, and helped them keep pace with front-running Dryden, who downed Red Lake 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night

Powar’s goals staked the Fighting Walleye to a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes, the goals coming 2:29 apart in the first six minutes of the contest.

Kaden Goodwin also scored a pair and added two helpers for a four-point night. Evan Lachimea, Callum Halls, Max Wright and Jacob Lamoureux, who had a hat trick in Friday night’s win, also scored for the Fighting Walleye (29-11-1).

Dryden 4, Red Lake 3 (OT):  Max Roby scored 6:38 into overtime to lead the Ice Dogs (31-7-4) to their fifth straight win. Red Lake’s Landon van Engelen sent the game to OT with a goal at 19:01 of the third. Roby finished with a goal and two assists.

Sioux Lookout 6, Fort Frances 3: Sage Roberts scored twice and added a pair of assists as the Bombers (26-9-4) tripled up the Lakers on the road. Brodie Wood had a goal and two helpers for Sioux Lookout. Brady Krentz and Evan Kabel scored for Fort Frances (20-16-6).
