Update: No injuries in Gordon Avenue fire

A fire at a Gordon Avenue residence was quickly extinguished and resulted in no injuries, but caused significant damage.

THUNDER BAY – A fire that broke out at a north side home caused significant damage, despite being quickly extinguished by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews.

The fire at a Gordon Avenue address, off of River Street, prompted a heavy response from TBFR around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with at least eight trucks including an aerial ladder on scene, along with Superior North EMS.

First arriving crews were able to quickly knock down the fire with a transitional attack, said platoon chief Stephen Vincent.

While he said that averted more serious structural damage to the home, it nevertheless sustained heavy damage to its first floor.

Noone was home at the time the fire broke out, Vincent said.

The fire remains under investigation by TBFR.
