MARATHON, Ont. – A Marathon family escaped unharmed after a fire ripped through a Poplar Crescent home late Thursday morning.
Fire crews arriving just before noon found the residence totally engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.
A nearby resident first noticed plumes of black smoke rising from the home around 11:30 a.m., he said, before seeing flames quickly overtake the structure..
"It didn't take long for that building to go up," he said.
Police were first on the scene, while an ambulance crew assisted the town's volunteer fire department in its response, the neighbour reported.
A woman, her daughter, and the family pet escaped the blaze.
Adjacent homes appeared to have sustained some minor damage, the neighbour said.
