A tractor trailer fire led to explosions and massive clouds of smoke on Highway 102 Thursday afternoon.
OPP officers and firefighters rushed to the scene of the fire along the highway just outside Oliver-Paipoonge near the former Strawberry Hill pottery.
Police say the fire started sometime after 2 p.m. when the driver noticed smoking coming out of his dashboard.
The fire destroyed the tractor trailer and the vehicles it was hauling at the time of the incident.
The truck was on its way to southern Ontario and carrying about eight other vehicles.
While firefighters fought the blaze, transport trucks and other vehicles lined up waiting for the situation to be under control.
OPP Const. Kevin Maggrah said they hoped to have the traffic go as soon as possible.
“We estimate it’s going to be an hour or two before we can get the fire out,” Maggrah said.
“OPP are just monitoring traffic and trying to keep everyone safe at the moment.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
The driver wasn’t injured.
