THUNDER BAY -- Firefighters said a Wolseley Street home suffered extensive damage after a Christmas Day fire tore through the residential structure.

In a release, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue said the call came in at about noon on Sunday and upon arrival smoke was showing from the second floor of the story-and-a-half home, resulting in a second alarm being called.

A charged hose line was used at the rear of the structure in order to suppress the fire and gain access. Additional pumpers arrived, secured a water source and sent a ladder up the front of the house to access the roof and attic spaces, while dousing the home with water.

Primary searches showed no occupants inside the home, and debris found inside made the interior attack difficult. It took quite some time to fully get at the fire, which was entrenched in the second-floor walls and in the attic. The cold temperatures did not help the effort.

Fire and water damage was extensive, but homes on either side were not damaged by the fire.
