BATWING LAKE — A forest fire located roughly 62 kilometres west of Thunder Bay is considered not under control.
Officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources say two water bombers and an observation aircraft were first dispatched to reduce the fire’s intensity and slow its spread, while Fire Rangers worked to get established on the ground.
The fire was first confirmed on Thursday and mapped out at approximately 20 hectares as of Friday evening.
The wildland fire hazard is considered high to extreme in the Thunder Bay area. The MNR reminds the public to use caution with any outdoor burning.
